Artist Statement
I collaborate with nature, creating drawings, paintings, photographs, and monoprints inspired by close observation and exploration of the natural environment. I use found natural materials in some of my works, so that collaboration is sometimes tangible as well as inspirational.
Being in nature, often with my dogs, is the primary way I spend time in the studio. In addition to making, my studio practice includes reading poetry and non-fiction, working in my garden, and reflecting on my gratitude for the natural world and its lessons. I also study artists whose work foregrounds the natural world and incorporates organic materials, primarily plants, as well as artists whose practices are ontologically meditative.
The goal of my practice is connection to both observable reality and the broader experience of being human. In my work, I attempt to reflect the shift in perspective that results from our immersion in and appreciation of the natural world. I am interested in how our sensory experience of a particular place and moment can connect us to the metaphysical.
When my works are available for sale, they can be purchased through the Tri-County Arts Council: tricountyartscouncil.org
